About This Site
This site is hosted by CWIHosting on servers running the Apache web server and the MySQL database server. All of the production scripting on this site is via Java Servlets, many of which interact with the database. This site is designed on a Power Macintosh 8500/180MP running on Mac OS X.
About Us
Heres some of the things weve done in the past.
Selected Development Projects
Matts Hack TV (C, 1998). Macintosh software to convert from the US NTSC video format to the European PAL or SECAM standard using a standard AV Power Macintosh. Utilizes QuickTime.
User management system (Java, 1999). Check new user signup against information in SQL database via JDBC, append information to RDBMS, encrypt users selected password, and grant realtime access by modifying Apaches htaccess file for password-protected portion of web site. Java code also allows personnel to maintain membership information via a web browser.
Search Engine Servlet (Java, 1999). Reusable modular system for searching information stored in a database and presenting the results in a page-by-page format. Configuration information is stored in XML format.
GEDx (C++, 1999). Parse GEDCOM data files, a universal exchange format for genealogical information, extract the relational information while retaining the hierarchal structure and store it in a CSV file for insertion into a database. This makes genealogical data both searchable and accessible via a web browser.
Public Key Encryption in Java (2000). Code for web development group to use in credit card storage system. Utilized the JCSI security provider.
GEDx in Java (2000). Command line implementation in Java which built on the 1999 version by performing the insertions directly into the database. It also improved memory management and performance.
Daitch-Mokotoff Soundex Encoding implementation in Java (2001). The D-M Soundex system is specifically formulated to deal with the shortcomings of the standard soundex in use today. This implementation allows searches to locate spelling variations of names and places.
Spam Hater (Perl, 2001). Unfinished project to parse email headers, query authoritative systems, and identify the administrative contact information for unsolicited commercial email (UCE or spam).
Matts Hack TV (C, 2001). Unfinished project to Carbonize the existing Matts Hack TV application and port it to Mac OS X.
Build, test, and deploy GateD OSPF routing protocol daemon to automatically propagate information about the network topology to firewalls. Changes or failures are automatically handled by rerouting via alternate pathways.
Automation of firewall server build, hardening, and configuration that ensures that all deployed firewalls meet the same standards and can be deployed quickly.
SNMP-based system and network monitoring feeding into HP OpenView, which provides a central, enterprise-wide monitoring and alerting platform for the infrastructure.
Implement Stonebeat firewall clustering solution to ensure that access to customer services is highly available.
Implement security systems and tools such as NIS+ for single, secure sign-on ability; SSH for secure interactive sessions to remote servers; and IPSEC for establishing secure VPN connections between different vendors security solutions.
Implement enterprise backup solution and disk mirroring for Unix systems (including firewalls) so that system data is protected.
Implement multi-tiered architecture for web sites. Separating the web, application, and database layers onto separate servers allows for increased security and performance.
